Canyon’s best-selling Grand Canyon hardtail commits to 1x for 2021
Young Hero versions and two aluminium framesets with sizes ranging from 2XS to XL

Published:
Claimed to be Canyon’s best-selling mountain bike in its range, the Grand Canyon is a versatile cross-country steed.
Last updated in mid-2019 with geometry tweaks and more travel, the 2021 version sees the removal of the front derailleur mount and the introduction of a Young Hero edition, designed for riders aged between eight and 12 years old.
2021 Grand Canyon details and updates
The 2021 Grand Canyon uses two aluminium framesets: an ‘AL’ frame for the Young Hero, Grand Canyon 5 and Grand Canyon 6 models, and an ‘AL SL’ frame for the higher-end Grand Canyon 7, 8 and 9 bikes that’s claimed to be lighter than the standard AL models.
The SL bikes also get dropper posts and rear thru-axles.
Women’s-specific versions feature a modified cockpit and saddle as well as women’s-specific geometry. The WMN versions are available in the Grand Canyon, 5, 6, 7 and 8 bikes, in extra-extra-small, extra-small, small and medium sizes. The unisex bikes range from extra-small to extra-large.
Staying true to Canyon offering different wheel sizes for different size bikes, the WMN models from extra-extra-small to small are available with 27.5in hoops, while the unisex bikes also have 27.5in wheels on the extra-small and small sizes.
The Young Hero version of the 2021 Grand Canyon – the cheapest model on offer – is offered exclusively in 27.5in wheels to help make it suitable for the typically smaller sizes of younger riders. The Young Hero frame is offered in extra-extra-small and extra-small sizes.
All other frame sizes across the range have 29in wheels.
Suspension travel changes depending on the model of 2021 Grand Canyon, too. The Young Hero, Grand Canyon 5 and Grand Canyon 6 all have 100mm of front fork travel, while the Grand Canyon 7, 8 and 9 have 120mm of travel.
All of the 2021 Grand Canyon bikes have had their front derailleur mount removed and are now 1x-specific with a 1×12 drivetrain, apart from the Young Hero model, which has a 1×11 drivetrain.
The 2021 bikes are available to buy on the Canyon website now.
