Biciklo.com: New website for cycle touring breaks

Better than Google, say founders

Fancy northern Northern Armenia by mountain bike? How about the IncaTrail in the Andes, or if you want a tour closer to Europe you could bike from Amsterdam to Paris or take on the Belgian Ardennes?

That's just a random selection from a new website, www.biciklo.com, that enables you to search for companies offering biking holidays. It's an extensive database of companies that allows you tighter control of the results than, say a Google search would reveal, allowing you to filter criteria by country, length and type of holiday offered.

Biciklo gives a little summary of holidays available matching your criteria – cost, accommodation type, number of nights and so on – plus a link to the website offering the tour.

Co-founder David Houghton said, "Searching on Google just brings up endless pages of results to wade through. Every rider is looking for something different in terms of level of difficulty, destination, accommodation and so on. So we set out to create a site that brings all that information into one place. In addition, we want to expose cyclists to destinations they might not have considered."

The site is complemented by an annual guide book with the tour reviews, new trends, new gear and new tour destinations. Biciklo says it contains "feature articles highlighting cycling tours around the world, and is useful and engaging enough to be relied on as a reference and a resource year-round."

It is shipped worldwide and costs £17.50 to buy in the UK.

Biciklo was founded by David Houghton and Hannah Spence, two cyclists with a wealth of touring experience in North America, South America, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.
