BikeRadar's US editor Matt Pacocha pulled out all the stops to grab second place in the Masters Men 30-34 category at the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships in Madison, Wisconsin at the weekend.

With eventual winner Dylan McNicholas (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) leading from the off and opening up a big lead by the end of the first lap, a three-way battle commenced for second.

Despite Robert Marion (American Classic Pro Team) and Jake Wells (Stan's NoTubes) not giving an inch, Matt attacked the group late and held on to secure silver by a substantial margin.

It was a result he was happy to take, especially given the limited training opportunities he'd had leading up to the race, and he praised McNicholas for his performance, which he described as "another level".
