Italian manufacturer Campagnolo previewed additions to their cyclo-cross and Fulcrum wheelset range at the 2011 Taipei Cycle show.

Campagnolo will have a wide-profile cantilever brake, available in two colors, and the top-level, discipline specific Bora One 50mm carbon tubular wheelset, while Fulcrum is offering a new 80mm road wheelset.

Campagnolo formally entered the cyclo-cross segment during the last September's 2010 tradeshows with four compact, cyclo-cross specific cranksets and double-lip sealed bottom bracket for both 10- and 11-speed drivetrains and three cyclo-cross specific clincher wheelsets. The expanding range of cyclo-cross specific components are to be packaged with in-line 10- and 11-speed shifters and derailleurs, depending on conditions and riders’ desires.

Campagnolo’s wide-profile cantilever is simply named and simply styled. They say the geometry and leverage ratio of the arms are designed to work best with their current Ergopower 10- and 11-speed levers.

The brakes feature tooled, independent, spring tension adjustment and straddle cable adjustments as well as modern adjustments (toe-in and wide vertical range) for the road-style cartridge pad holders. Campagnolo claim 138g per wheel with straddle cable and hardware. The brakes are available in silver or black.

Bora One CX

The Bora One CX wheelset differs from the standard Bora only by way of more robust hub seals. The 50mm carbon tubular rim is laced radial front and with Campagnolo’s proprietary G3 rear lacing pattern. The set weighs a claimed 1,350g, which is coincidentally the same as the standard Bora One wheelset.

Fulcrum’s new deep aero wheel

The new 80mm Racing Speed XLR 80 tubular wheelset is born from the demands of the Italian manufacturers professional road racers. The set is said to be aerodynamic, but easy to handle on road courses.

The wheels sport carbon hubs and Fulcrum’s CULT ceramic bearings as well as the ‘anti-rotation’ spoke system that ensures the bladed steel spokes (16 front and 18 rear 2:1 spoke pattern) are correctly positioned. The new set is claimed to weigh 1,540g and available with Fulcrum’s standard red graphics or a new ‘Dark Label’ stealth graphics package.

Also new for 2012, Fulcrum will offer ‘Dark Label’ graphics for the Racing Speed XLR 50. Campagnolo will also offer new colors for Athena and Centaur; the former will be available in ‘Deep Black’ and ‘Bright Silver,’ while the latter will be offered in ‘Black&Red’, and ‘Deep Black’.

Campagnolo and Fulcrum have not yet issued availability or pricing for the new products.
