After several revised launch dates, Canyon Bicycles is officially open for business in the United States.

On Tuesday, the company launched its consumer-direct sales to US customers. The German brand already has a strong presence in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

“Thirty years ago I started Canyon, selling parts from a trailer I brought to local races,” said CEO and founder Roman Arnold. “Launching sales in the United States marks another great milestone for all of us in the Canyon family, from our design team to our engineers to our top professional riders, as we begin a new chapter of sharing our passion for cycling.”

Canyon's US office is in Carlsbad, California, with an additional logistics facility in Chino, California.

Though expected for several years, Canyon’s entrance into the US market could accelerate the shift to similar consumer-direct sales models among competitors.

Canyon hopes to gain traction in the US market with prices that are significantly lower than similarly-equipped models from companies such as Specialized and Trek.

The company also touts the minimal assembly required once bikes arrive at consumers’ doorsteps, claiming that many of its models can easily be built in as few at 10 minutes. Canyon offers a 30-day return policy.
