Cycling Party is a new cycling board game designed to bring the excitement and tactics of professional road cycling to your tabletop. Each player takes control of their own cycling team, picks race strategy and must be ready to take advantage of changing situations as the race unfolds.
The game, from Spanish company Snake Eyes Games, has three levels of play – junior, senior and master. Junior gamers will learn the basics of play including pelotons, pacelines, breakaways, ascending mountains, and readying for a sprint finish.
Senior level includes different kinds of riders from climbers to domestiques and features attacks as well as crashes and 'descending at full speed'!
Master level is a full stage race aided by iPad sotware that features different jerseys and variations to give the most complex but immersive version of Cycling Party.
Fifty-four hexagon-shaped cards – each depicting different types of roads, turns, climbs and descents – build the race route on each play. There are various counters for the cyclists themselves, as well as mountain passes, water bottles and attacks indicators. There’s also an app to help you learn the rules of the game.
The project, which has actually been in development for more than 10 years, had its Kickstarter launch on 23 October, and hit its funding goal of US$5,000 in just 48 hours, proving the appetite of those in cycling circles for at-home emulation of their favourite sport.
The project will remain on Kickstarter until 22 November, where those keen to get the game can back the Cycling Party project and get exclusive rewards.
