Steve Domahidy, the co-founder of Niner Bikes who went on to found his own company, has just released details of his third model, a titanium 27.5+ / 29er hardtail designed around a Pinion gearbox and the Gates belt drive system.
In today’s world of disposable carbon wünderbikes and drivetrains with limited life expectancies, it’s refreshing to see a mountain bike designed to survive the zombie apocalypse. That’s not a claim made by Domahidy, but maybe it should be.
The drivetrain is included in the price of the Ti All-Mountain (excluding the rear hub)
The new model, simply called the Domahidy Designs Titanium All-Mountain Pinion Hardtail, will retail for $4,995 (UK and Australian pricing have yet to be announced). The price includes Pinion’s P1.12 12-speed gearbox and Gates belt-drive system.

“We lovingly refer to this bike as the ‘play bike’,” said Domahidy. “It is the ultimate, go-anywhere hardtail.”
The All-Mountain Hardtail is constructed from 3/2.5 titanium and designed around 120-140mm suspension forks. It’s compatible with 27.5x3in treads as well as standard 29er rubber. The belt is tensioned via Paragon Machine Works sliding dropout. Dropout spacing is set at 148x12mm.

With rumors of forthcoming 12-speed drivetrains from Shimano and SRAM, the lower maintenance and more durable Pinion system looks like an appealing alternative for a rugged hardtail. The Pinion P1.12 transmission has a 600 percent range, outpacing nearly all external mountain bike drivetrains, albeit with a weight penalty. The P1.12 has a claimed weight of 2,350g. With no chain to lubricate and a gearbox that requires oil changes every 10,000km / 6,200 miles, this is as low-maintenance as mountain bikes get.
Domahidy expects the new bike to become available by mid-summer. To sweeten the pot, riders who pre-order between now and March 31 will receive a free Industry Nine Backcountry 27.5+ or 29 Trail wheelset with the frame package.
As with all Domahidy Designs mountain bikes, the All-Mountain also comes with a year membership to the International Mountain Biking Association and free pair of IMBA socks.
