At the cobbled classics of early April, Mavic publicly announced a Cosmic Pro Limited Edition shoe with Lion of Flanders graphics and not so publicly debuted some new wheels.
BikeRadar spotted the Comete Pro Carbon SL Tubular at Scheldeprijs, the midweek race and cobbles tech extravaganza ahead of the Wednesday before Paris-Roubaix.
Mavic was tight-lipped on the details, but said there is a 1,490g tubular rim brake version and a 1,610g disc wheelset.
We understand that the wheel has a new rim shape and layup compared to the CXR Ultimate 60 T. It has a NACA profile at 64mm deep and 25mm wide, with Mavic’s iTgMAX resin and braking surface technology.
It is unclear whether there will be a clincher version, but that only makes sense given that clinchers make up the vast majority of what most of us ride.
We also heard a rumor that a tubeless version could be in the works, which would be big news for the always-cautious Mavic that does not yet have a full carbon tubeless road wheel.
The Cosmic Pro shoes are the same as the current Cosmic Pro models with what Mavic calls its Endofit Tongue and Dual Ergo Dial QR system (read: similar to BOA but not BOA).
Mavic’s dial offers adjustment in 1mm increments in both directions.
The carbon-soled shoes weigh a claimed 480g per pair and are priced at $319. UK and AU pricing was not immediately available.
