Dutch hand built carbon wheel specialist Fast Forward (FFWD) has added two new wheels to its range: a full carbon clincher disc wheel and an aluminium low profile clincher, which is the company's first foray into 100 percent metalwork in wheels.
Carbon specialists Fast Forward said its new disc, the FFWD Disc FCC, weighs 1,345g (claimed) and the brake track has been treated to improve its stopping performance. It will retail at €1499 – about £1,230 though an exact British price is still to be confirmed.
But it’s the base model FFWD F2A with a claimed weight of 1,470g which caught our eye. The alu-rimmed wheels are built on tough DTSwiss 240S hubs. 18 spokes in the front and 24 in the back – DT Aerolight on the non drive side and DT Comp on the drive side – suggest they'll be tough and durable cookies.
The broad 23mm rim is also a further indication that wheel brands see a plush future in easier-rolling, large volume tyres - up to 28C – on road bikes. The F2A whelset will retail at €699 – around £575.
