When it comes to winter riding, we like to think we've 'been there, tried that' in the visibility stakes. But this is a new one on us – reflective mudguards that light up at night under a car's headlights.
Widget Components claims to have looked at what else is out there on the market, and decided reflective mudguards were an "obvious choice" for riders wanting to stay safe in low-light conditions.
Spotted at trade event the Bike Place Show, the Widget mudguards had a dull, faintly textured grey finish under normal lighting conditions, as you can see above.
But when we switched on the camera's flash, they lit up very brightly – as you can see.
There are fully-reflective and part-reflective versions in a traditional fit, and a blade option for race bikes without the necessary eyelets. They fit 700cc wheels, and come in two widths: 20-28mm, and 28-45mm.
Pricing is £39 for the fully reflective version, £37 for the part-reflective version, and £29 for the blades. Widget Components also plan to do a matt black reflective version, as they acknowledge not everyone wants a 'grey-by-day' coating.
