Lightweight ranks the performance of its 270g HPC cockpit ahead of Roval, PRO and others

The Lightweight HPC is one of the world's lightest one-piece aero cockpits, weighing a claimed 270g in an unspecified size – but you'll have to pay a high price for the pleasure, with each cockpit costing £1,900.

Released quietly late last year, Lightweight says the HPC cockpit is manufactured using 142 precision-cut carbon fibre panels to offer "unparalleled performance without adding unnecessary weight".

The Lightweight HPC cockpit is available with 36, 38 or 40cm-wide bars and with stems 90 to 130mm long in 10mm increments.

It joins a small but growing number of ultra-lightweight aero cockpits, including the Darimo Nexum Drag (€899, claimed weight 245g in a size 400/120mm) and the Gemini Älzir (€1,250, claimed weight "from 220g").

Lightweight has developed a proprietary performance scale. Lightweight

Lightweight ranks the performance of its bar as better than the 3T Aeroflux, PRO Vibe, ENVE SES and others using its proprietary aero-mass index.

This ranks the performance of bars by comparing their weight, stiffness and aero performance – as measured by Lightweight – against others, assigning each a number on a scale from 2.5 to 6.00, as shown in a white paper that accompanied the launch.

It's worth noting this isn't an industry-wide standard. Equally, some believe the importance of low weight and high stiffness is often overstated, so take these findings with a pinch of salt.

Still, if you want a suitably premium cockpit to pair with your suitably premium bike, Lightweight makes headset top covers to suit bikes from Pinarello, Colnago, Specialized and others.
