Virtual cycling simulator RGT Cycling (Road Grand Tours Cycling) has announced that, in response to the global coronavirus pandemic, it is now free to use for all once again, having moved to a subscription model since it first launched as a free platform in 2018.

Now normally priced at £12.99 / $14.99 a month, RGT Cycling operates along similar lines to Zwift, allowing users with the appropriate hardware to ride and compete with one another in a virtual environment that aims to be as realistic as possible.

According to a press release, RGT made the decision to offer its platform for free following the news that British Cycling had suspended all sanctioned activities, while Spain and Italy have reportedly banned cycling completely.

"RGT was created to empower all cyclists to ride inside in the same way they ride outside," says RGT Cycling CEO Alex Serban.

"As the impact of COVID-19 is felt around the world, this mission has become more important than ever and after watching inspiring communities come together to support each other, our need to do everything we can to help became obvious.

"At a time when focusing on profit would be easy, this removal of restrictions will provide free access for all and, we hope, offer some support to the cycling community."

A cynic might point out that this is a golden opportunity for those in the world of virtual cycling to promote their product in the hope of scooping up future paying subscribers, but however you slice it, this is your chance to try RGT for free with no strings attached.

If you fancy giving it a go, head over to the RGT Cycling website to download the app and register for a free subscription. To access Premium features, you'll need to send a blank email to rideitout@rgtcycling.com using the same email address you signed up with.

RGT is available for PCs, Macs and Apple TVs and works in conjunction with iOs and Android apps.
