Shimano 105 Di2 currently has 45% off in the summer sales

Shimano 105 Di2 currently has 45 per cent off in the Sigma Sports summer sale, bringing the popular groupset down from £1,730 to under £1,000.

While Shimano Dura-Ace and Ultegra may receive the most fanfare, 105 Di2 is still classed as a performance road bike groupset in the Japanese brand’s hierarchy.

In fact, the electronic groupset, which launched three years ago, aimed to take as much of Shimano’s higher-level tech and distil it into a more affordable package.

And that package has got more affordable still with Sigma Sports now selling Shimano 105 Di2 for £951.50

While the latest generation of Ultegra is almost indistinguishable from the top-spec Dura-Ace groupset – apart from weight – Shimano 105 Di2 makes a few extra concessions to keep the price down.

For instance, the levers miss out on the customisable hood-top buttons and the brakes don't have Shimano’s Servo Wave modulation – although braking is still very good.

The derailleur shifting isn’t quite as fast as Dura-Ace or Ultegra, either. But the difference is practically imperceptible unless you're riding the different groupsets back to back.

On our scales, 105 Di2 is roughly 230g heavier than Ultegra. Whether that difference matters is up to you, but that extra weight isn’t going to ruin your ride experience.

When our road tech lead, Ashley Quinlan, reviewed the groupset back in 2023, he said: “Fundamentally, Shimano 105 Di2 R7100 is an excellent-performing groupset.

“It packs the efficiency and reliability of Di2 shifting in a cheaper-than-Ultegra Di2 R8100 package, without cutting any tech that makes a large difference to overall performance.”

Ashley noted that Ultegra could be worth the extra cash, if your budget can stretch a bit higher. And fortunately, if that’s you, Sigma Sports also has Ultegra for a bargain price
