Strava has revealed that 1,809 new King of the Mountain (KOM) records were set at the 2025 Tour de France.
On Strava, KOM or Queen of the Mountain (QOMs) records are the fastest title awarded on a segment, and the Tour de France coming to town means a lot of people’s records will fall.
The cycling app says the 2025 record is up from 1,770 in 2024.
Tadej Pogačar’s KOMs

Tadej Pogačar, now a four-time winner of the Tour de France, secured 362 KOMs, which is more than any other rider and one in five of all KOMs set during the race.
One KOM the Slovenian is probably particularly proud of happened on stage 16. Pogačar set a new record up Mont Ventoux, beating his previous best by 5 minutes with a time of 53min 37sec over the 20.74km, 8.3 per cent climb.
The yellow jersey’s exploits didn’t go unnoticed. Strava says Pogačar racked up nearly 2 million kudos during the race, with his stage 2 upload becoming the most ‘Kudos’d’ activity of the summer.
Other top KOM winners

Pogačar wasn’t the only Tour de France rider to rack up a whole load of KOMs.
Strava says France’s Lenny Martinez clocked up 126 KOMs. The 22-year-old led the King of the Mountains classification at the race before he was given an eight-point penalty for repeatedly holding onto his team car during stage 18.
Bruno Armirail, another French rider, also managed to win 80 KOMs.
Meanwhile, Britain’s rising star Oscar Onley won 72 KOMs. The fourth-place finisher also came within 30 seconds of Pogačar’s stage 12 Hautacam record.
Fastest-ever Tour de France
It might not be that surprising to hear that so many KOMs were won during the Tour de France this year. After all, it was the fastest-ever Tour de France, with an average speed of 42.8491kph.
The speed of the race is getting faster and faster, thanks to advantages in aerodynamics, rider development, training, nutrition, route design, and there being more money in the sport.
