Orbit Tandems have unveiled their 2012 range of top-of-the-line Summit tandems.

All three tandem models are made with Reynolds 631 steel and hand-built in the UK by the master frame builders at Bob Jackson Cycles of Leeds, and hand-finished at Orbit’s Yorkshire workshop.

As with all three bikes in the Summit range, the Rohloff (£4,500) uses S&S couplings which allow the bike to be collapsed for easy transportation. It has a 14-speed hub gearing, 26” Alex DH19 wheels and Shimano Deore V-brakes. It comes in three standard sizes or custom sizing at an additional £150 - the case with all the Summit bikes.

The Summit XT (£4,250) is built for comfort and is ideal for touring or longer expeditions. As such, it’s available in 26” or the larger 700c wheel sizes, a wider range of gears (Shimano XT 27-speed shifters) and Shimano XT derailleurs.

The Summit 700c (£4,000), as its name suggests, is a larger-wheeled, sportier option and designed for mile-munching couples. It comes with Shimano Tiagra 27-speed shifters, an 11-34T cassette and Shimano XT rear derailleur.

All three are sold exclusively through tandem specialists JD Tandems and are available for customers to test ride. Visit Orbit Tandems website for more details.
