Colnago has announced its new top-of-the-line bike, the V2-R. Replacing the V1-R, the new monocoque frame features a host of small refinements and it looks lovely. It will be sold in both rim and disc brake variants, the latter with flat mount calipers and thru-axles.

For once, there are no lofty claims about weight here – the V2-R’s frame weighs a claimed 835g in medium, the same as its predecessor.

Bottom bracket stiffness has increased by 13 percent, while there’s been a modest four percent boost at the head tube.

The frame now sports a slick integrated seat clamp, while a move to direct-mount brake calipers means there’s officially clearance for 28mm tyres, and likely more unofficially.Like Colnago’s Aero Concept, the cables are routed internally through the top tube and a lovely looking if not overly practical carbon cockpit is an option. The V2-R also shares its threaded bottom bracket design with the Concept and the C60, employing Colnago’s own answer to press-fit woes.

Pricing and availability for the V2-R is to be confirmed, but it's expected to be in shops in the coming months. Being a Colnago, it's safe to assume it will be expensive.

I’ll be riding this bike tomorrow, so look out for a first ride review on the V2-R in the next few days.
