Transport for London today announced a scheme that should entitle many London businesses to free products and services in order to encourage their employees to commute by bike.
The Cycling Workplaces scheme will benefit eligible businesses through providing a range of cycle parking facilities and bike-related training to staff. The parking facilities will help to contribute towards the Mayor’s target to implement 80,000 additional cycle spaces by 2016.
To join the scheme, businesses must have a minimum of five staff on site and be within 1.5 km of a new Barclays Cycle Superhighway route or within central or greater London.
Parcelforce, an international courier and logistics company, ordered bike stands through the initiative and now have 24 parking spaces available for employees at its Ealing depot.
Rob Crosbie, Operations Team Manager, Parcelforce said: “Our staff are happy with the quality of racks and the security they offer. There has been an increase in cycle usage, freeing up parking spaces and increasing the morale of staff. The supplied racks are a big improvement on our previous facility. We would definitely encourage other businesses to make use of this initiative.”
