The 2020 Trek Rail is a longer, slacker 29er trail machine (with a motor)

New bike adds to Trek’s range of off-road e-bikes

The new Rail from Trek is an electric mountain bike built for shredding trails then zipping to the top of the next hill thanks to its solid build and large battery capacity.

It should come as no surprise that Trek is upping its e-MTB offering. With the introduction of the latest Powerfly hardtail, next in line is the full-suspension range.

The Rail is an all-new 29in-wheeled trail bike with 150mm of rear-wheel travel, and Trek’s OCLV Mountain Carbon or Alpha Aluminium frame options.

Use of Bosch’s newest Performance Line CX motor, which is significantly smaller and lighter than previous versions, has allowed Trek to shorten the chainstays to 448mm in Low setting (there are low/high options thanks to the “Mino Link” geometry-changing flip-chip) compared to the 2019 Powerfly LT full-suspension e-MTB.

The brand has also stretched out the reach and slackened the head angle for more stable handling. The head angle in Low setting is quite slack at 64.5 degrees and reach for a size L is 465mm in Low setting, with a wheelbase length of 1,243mm. All models in both frame materials are available in four sizes.

Trek says all Rail models are built with e-bike specific parts. This means beefier forks and four-piston brakes.

Most models come fitted with a 625Wh battery and the two models that don’t can be upgraded at a later date. The battery is fitted into the frame using Trek’s Removable Integrated Battery system, which provides a simple way to access and remove the battery from the side of the down tube.
