The popular Pro-Am cycling fundraiser Trois Etapes has launched an Italian event to complement an existing event in France.

The Trois Etapes Giro will take place from 6 to 9 June 2014, and will traverse Dolomites summits including the Passo Pordoi, Giau, and Fedaia.

The French version – which is now entering its third year and has raised US$4.5 million – will visit the Pyrenean passes to be used in the 2014 Tour de France (7-10 August) a couple of weeks after the Tour de France pros have conquered the Aubisque, Hautacam and Tourmalet on their way to Paris.

Organisers Cosaveli will split 120 riders into 15 groups and attach a pro or ex-pro to each group. The groups will scale iconic passes such as the Aubisque, Hautacam and mighty Tourmalet. Pro riders in the 2013 event included Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre, Andreas Klier, Lars Michaelsen, Evelyn Stevens and Annie Simpson.

The events give riders a chance to experience team cycling under race-like conditions with team car support and a DS radioing instructions to the group.

Each rider raises funds for their team's charity. Visit Trois Etapes for more information.
