A group of engineers who developed an electric back wheel that gives any old city bike electric power assist have smashed the crowd funding target they set two weeks ago.
The FlyKly Smart Wheel houses all the internals to help take the effort out of pedalling inside a tough housing. Users can set the amount of pedal assist they want via their smart phone. We think that's pretty imaginative and so do contributors who have pledged more than US$220,000 – US$120,000 over the original target set two weeks ago.
FlyKly co-founder Niko Klansek said he hopes the innovation will make utilitarian city cycling accessible to more people.

Video: The FlyKly team hope their innovation will mean users can "always dress for the destination, not the ride".
The project has some cool add-on tech too, including a handlebar mounted phone holder that doubles as a recharger and a front light.
