GT Bicycles pioneered the use of carbon fibre in downhill racing with the original Fury. New for 2012 is an alloy version that boasts a similarly swoopy look and distinctive Independent Drivetrain suspension setup, but at a much lower price.

Mountain Biking UK's Jake Ireland rode the carbon World Cup bike earlier this year for an Old Vs New feature, so he was just the man to put the new Fury Alloy through its paces. In the video below, filmed on his home trails in the Forest of Dean, he outlines some of his first impressions.

You can read Jake's full first ride review of the £2,999.99 GT Fury Alloy 1.0 in the latest issue of Mountain Biking UK magazine (#276, May 2012), available in shops and on Apple Newsstand and Zinio now. A £700 cheaper 2.0 version is also available, with downgraded Marzocchi suspension and SRAM X5 kit. For more information, check out our 'just in' article or visit www.gtbicycles.com.
