Not just a fixie fad

British saddle makers Brooks are filming a series of documentaries on the more eccentric side of cycling, and in this second episode they look at hardcourt bike polo.

Described as "a fast-growing urban sport with thousands of rabid enthusiasts the world over", this video, created by the players themselves, follows the 2009 season of international tournaments held in Europe and North America.

Written off by some as just a fad for fixed gear fashionistas, the sport was apparently included in the 1908 London Olympic Games and was hugely popular in the wake of the First World War, with even the likes of the Duke of Edinburgh picking up a mallet.
