In the run-up to the Ironman world championship in Kona this weekend, Zipp announced a limited edition Super-9 Carbon Clincher Disc with custom graphics printed on the wheel. The new "Impress" process uses direct printing to put any design onto the entire disc.
German Sebastian Kienle rode an Impress Super-9 at the recent Ironman 70.3 world championship, and two of Zipp's sponsored pro road teams, Omega Pharma – Quick-Step and Saxo-Tinkoff had the discs for the Tour de France.
The 1,155g 11-speed disc has a retail of $2,500 (UK pricing not immediately available), about $125 more than a standard Super-9.
Expect to see a few flashy disc at Kona this weekend, and the Impress Super-9 will be available for consumers at the end of next month.
