Not quite perfect, but it’s well-built, thought-out and looks great

If you’re a human male after a larger backpack for full days out on the bike that’s also a good choice for everyday use, this is just what you’re looking for. Human females should try Evoc’s 20L FR Trail Women Hydration Backpack.

There’s plenty of room in the main compartment for a change of clothes, and it’s designed to house a three-litre bladder, although there isn’t one included. There are tube clips too.

The side pockets are easy to access, the glasses pocket is soft-lined and there’s a zip-out rear section with plenty of elastic and zipped internal stash pockets; ideal for storing tools. The Roamer also has clips for carrying both open and full-face helmets.

Also welcome, given its remit, is the fold-out cover to keep heavy or prolonged rain at bay.

The well-padded back section affords some spine protection and fits snugly. Load the Roamer right up and the back system does an excellent job of spreading the weight, though when it’s only part-full the lack of compression straps mean anything in the main compartment slops about.

Off the bike, the long back section can dig into the base of the spine while walking, but otherwise this pack is a real winner.
