Chrome Citizen review

The Citizen is Chrome's medium sized (20l) messenger bag. It features one of the most comfortable, foam padded shoulder straps we've tried, neatly built into the webbing so it doesn't scrunch up.

Tough, functional and very, very comfortable

The Citizen is Chrome's medium sized (20l) messenger bag. It features one of the most comfortable, foam padded shoulder straps we've tried, neatly built into the webbing so it doesn't scrunch up.

You can't swap shoulders for carrying, but it's so comfortable it doesn't matter too much. Construction is superb - a Cordura shell, weatherproof truck tarp liner stitched with nylon thread and a suspended internal weatherproof bag. There's a cross stabilizing strap with reflective stitching, though it's a bit tight under the arm when the bag is stuffed.

We love the chunky seatbelt buckle - it unclips quickly, so you can dump the bag when it's fully loaded without struggling with it over your helmet - and the strap's easy to tighten while riding. There're a few pen pockets and various compartments. A high price tag counts against it - but we're sure it will stand the test of time. In fact, we'd actually be tempted to go with its bigger brother the Metropolis (33l), which has a useful waist strap to stabilize heavy loads better.
