Luu's new self-contained lamp is OK but not outstanding. The single can unit twist locks onto a bolt-up plastic clamp that balances weight well to keep it stable on steps and rocky descents.
There's a remote switch for toggling between the four outputs, and the backlit switch communicates remaining charge.
Its four Cree XML R5 LEDs give a smoothly graded beam with no obvious holes or halos, but it's much less impressive on the trail than the claimed lumens would suggest. Lux rating backs up a lack of long-range vision on the trail and there's not much sideways spread to the beam.
While we've had no reliability issues with several Luu lights we've got on test, the battery life and overall performance is only adequate for the weight and price.
