Neat design and easy to stow, but doesn’t offer total security

Abus's Futura D-lock is an idea we really like. It’s long and thin enough to stow easily in a rucksack, it has the same technology as its more expensive brothers and the slim shackle is easy to fill, so if used carefully it offers a good level of security.

It resisted 30 seconds of bolt cropping, but under twisting forces it lasted only a further nine seconds – a surprise as Abus locks are usually excellent in this respect.

To its credit, our dummy frame was heavily damaged. The Futura is a convenient, fairly light lock, not super high security but good for short use.
