Easy to fit and very effective. A great way to revitalise your old hardtail

Therapy Components bring your old V-brake frame skidding into the world of disc brakes with their Brake Therapy Conversion Kit.

A disc brake calliper mount connects to the existing V-brake boss via an extension rod. You replace the hub spacer with the supplied bespoke converter and jam nut.

The disc brake calliper slots over this spacer and is held in place with a spring clip pin and safety lanyard. Tightening the quick-release lever locks everything down.

There are kits to fit most hubs, but all require a 160mm rotor and 74mm post mount brakes. If yours is a 51mm IS mount, that’s too bad.

Fitting our kit to a 1996 Specialized Stumpjumper with Hope hubs was a doddle. On the trail, braking felt the same as if the brake was directly mounted to the frame. The rod didn’t flex and the calliper mount had no lateral play.

The only downside is that it’s slightly more fiddly to remove the wheel, although no more fiddly than with V-brakes.
