Excellent fit and worth the investment

The Genesis is Lazer's race bred helmet and is designed to be compact and lightweight – you can spot one sitting atop sprinter Tom Boonen. The shape certainly hugs the head and a row of gaping longitudinal vents take care of cooling duties.

The most notable feature of the helmet is the ingenious Rollsys adjustment for the cradle. A dial sits on top and to the rear of the helmet and can be turned with one finger to adjust the rear and sides of the cradle. It's incredibly easy to use and a comfortable system which can be fine-tuned to any head shape. A bonus if you're a long-haired lady or sport a racy mullet is that the design lets you stick a ponytail out the back.

The helmet is reinforced with an internal cage to improve impact resistance. This also allows vents to be made bigger without compromising safety.

Fit is great, with no pressure points, and the whole helmet felt light and fresh with an air of reassuring quality. We also liked the clean looks and absence of unnecessary gimmicks.

Lazer comes with a rich history. The Belgian company claims to be the oldest helmet manufacturer still in operation, so it's had a lot of practice in getting it right.
