Ultra-light, comfortable, adjustable on the fly and superb value. Good work, Uvex

We confess, we weren’t jumping for joy when a helmet box labelled ‘Uvex’ turned up. Visions of a Euro-geek roadie lid sprung to mind. How wrong we were.

The XP-100 packs some fantastic features into a stylish helmet and wafts onto the scales at a mere 262g. That’s a proper premium helmet weight for just £70.

The helmet will fit head sizes between 55 and 60cm with a 360-degree, thumbwheel adjusted 'dial fit' retention system and is easy to tighten or loosen on the fly.

This on-the-go adjustability is further bolstered by a ratcheting chin strap buckle that enables easy lockdown for teeth-rattling descents.

The venting is excellent, there’s a wasp-proof mesh on the inlet ports, and the minimal weight and highly adjustable fit make it ultra-comfortable.

The peak does sit a little low, but we popped it out of its central retainer, pushed it up and the problem was solved. The Makrolon shell will deflect minor bumps, but you’ll need to take care with the exposed EPS foam at the rear.
