Altura Airstream review

Altura Airstream review

Altura's Airstream is another comfortable mitt, largely because there's a thick gel pad over the ulnar nerve area. There are two more pads - at the base of the fingers and thumb - that feel a bit like the Adiprene of the adiStar. It's a bit bulky but your hand can bend okay.

Our review
Somewhat bulky but very comfortable. Best suited to touring or commuting.

The palm itself is made from synthetic leather. A fleece thumb handles nose/ sweat wiping, while the thumb arch is reinforced and hexagon-patterned with rubbery silicone for grip.

As a whole, grip isn't as sure (at least, on the much-honked fixedgear test bike) as the Adidas, Endura, Campag or Rapha mitts. For less-heavily honked bikes it'll be fine. The stretchy upper is made from nylon and polyester mesh. There's a Velcro strap, plus finger loops for mitt removal. While not ideal for racing, this mitt would be a good choice for long days in the saddle, such as when touring or for century rides.
