Our review
Great warmth and temperature regulation with excellent practicality

Largely made from a robust three-layer softshell fabric with a brushed fleece lining, Pearl Izumi’s PRO 180 jacket is ideal winter wear.

  • Highs: Epic pocket volume, great fit
  • Lows: Cuffs leave a wrist gap

Thick thermal material panels covering much of the upper back and the triceps create highly breathable sections that help regulate temperature when you’re working hard, although they don’t have the softshell’s water resistance. A tall microfibre collar fits close and has a Velcro flap to ensure the zip stays closed.

The arms and cuffs are anatomically shaped for an accurate fit, although the cuffs don’t seal against the wrist, so unless you have gauntlets that cover the gap, expect a slight cooling draught.

Silicone grippers hold the hem down, and there’s a zipped valuables pocket below the opening for the simply enormous main pocket (its single space is 20cm deep and stretches from side to side).
