This is Gore's top-end jersey, which is reflected in its cost. But taking that price into account, the Xenon jersey isn’t nearly as impressive as others in the Gore range.
It does have some nice features. The jersey is made from nylon/elastane that’s cut close to your body, but it’s also stretchy enough that you don’t feel restricted.
The front of the torso and tops of the arms are made from Gore's WindStopper fabric for protection from the elements, the sleeves are more than long enough and the dropped tail stops your lower back from getting cold.
Zipped, 30cm-long vents on the chest let cool air in, while three patch pockets at the rear and visible reflective trim are sound finishing touches. It also comes in three colour choices – white/black, red/black and orange/black.
It all sounds good so far, but we had two issues with the Xenon. First, the WindStopper fabric stops at your elbows, leaving your forearms to get cold, and second, the neck, which is cut high at the front and low at the rear, just didn’t fit closely enough, and funnelled air in when it should have kept it out.
