Oakley Ballistic 2.6 MTB review

Oakley Ballistic 2.6 MTB review

Style icons Oakley have always made distinctive performance bike shorts, but they've never been cheap, and these Ballistics prove the point. The liner is fixed into the soft gripper waistband so these won't do for general slouching shorts.

Super baggy style, but only average performance despite price

Style icons Oakley have always made distinctive performance bike shorts, but they've never been cheap, and these Ballistics prove the point.

The liner is fixed into the soft gripper waistband so these won't do for general slouching shorts. The mesh fabric is fast wicking though and the pad is okay - if not a match for the Sugoi or Gore pieces. The super baggy shell is where most of the design lives, with neoprene back panel sporting a metal logo, rubber vent scoops and plastic Oakley 'icons' on all the zips. Sadly the upper vents aren't well positioned for airflow once you're sat on your bike, anything bulky in the cargo pockets bangs your legs, plus the super baggy cut is a real saddle snatcher. While it dries fast, the fabric doesn't fend off showers either, making these shorts big on style but low on practicality for the high price.
