One of the best all-round shorts – but we miss the phone pocket

These shorts are an office favourite and although designed for downhill mountain biking use, we rate them for all-round riding.

The long length is complemented by a slimmer cut, making them ideal for general hacking. A new rear pocket for 2009 makes carrying a wallet easy, but the lack of the previous, and very convenient, magnetic closure phone pocket is slightly irritating.

A small zippered pocket on the right leg can take lightweight goods, and there’s a retractable lift pass holder for those lucky enough to be using ski lifts.

A zippered fly with a twin popper is glove-friendly, and twin hook-and-loop straps allow easy waist adjustment.

For 2009, the vents have moved from the front of the leg to the inside and the weather resistant coating seems to fare better.
