Our review
Impressive pair of bib shorts loaded with rider-friendly technologies that offer a great ride

Pros:

Grippers; pad; overall ride

Cons:

Little wrong at this price but not quite a match for the very best (and more expensive) shorts out there

The Aerons are a great pair of bibs made from sustainably produced Italian performance fabrics. They feature a quality custom chamois from Elastic Interface and many filter-down technologies.

dhb is a well-respected brand these days, and the Aerons boast many features you’d find on more expensive bibs. They are aimed at a broad range of cyclists, from commuters to long-distance riders. A women's-specific version is available too, with straps that crossover at the back.

Elastic Interface’s Paris HP pad is optimised for riding on the hoods and claims to keep you comfortable for seven hours, or more, in the saddle. It features three different densities of foam, with ultra-high-density inserts beneath the sit bones, plus a gender-specific shallow central channel designed to relieve pressure and aid blood flow.

The Aeron shorts use panels cut from two different technical fabrics: one is stretchy with light compression to support the muscles, while the other is made for maximum moisture transfer. The design doesn’t use too many panels, which reduces the number of seams.

The contrasting white uppers look good and the mesh material contains carbon fibre, which is claimed to increase cooling and wicking on hot days.

The pad might on the surface look crude compared to some, but don’t be fooled because it delivers outstanding comfort regardless of ride time.

It’s not overly bulky, and the perforations in the 100 per cent recycled face fabric aid breathability and do a good job of keeping you sweat and chafe-free.

The multi-panel design of the shorts works well and the Lycra offers good support. This fabric isn’t as thin as some but never felt overly warm.

What did impress was the 5cm-deep leg band that is combined with a folded hem. Dhb has updated the interior silicone gripper to be more durable, and these leg bands work perfectly with maximum comfort.

With the upper bibs, it’s what you don’t notice that makes them so good. They hold everything in place as they should while keeping you cool.

dhb Aeron bottom line

The Aerons have evolved into a pair of all-round bibs that work superbly for most pedalling duties. Their overall fit, comfort and construction make them great for the cash.
