A very good pair of shorts, but that’s all they are: just a pair of shorts

Rapha's touring shorts are for roadies who aren’t keen on tight Lycra. They’re pad-free and, according to Rapha, ‘designed specifically to be worn over your favourite bib-shorts’.

To that end they’re comfortable, well made, featherlight, have a flattering non-baggy cut and excellent wicking properties. Two small zipped pockets on the front and rear don’t offer much stowage space for anything more than a mobile, your Platinum card and the keys to the Jag.

As much as we like them, we can’t quite shift the feeling that we’re paying £70 for, well, just a pair of shorts and, although they cost £50 more, we’d be inclined to opt for the brand’s Fixed shorts instead.
