Mavic's Thermo Roubaix longs aren’t cheap, but the suede-esque Alcantana insert is an absolute star – it’s pre-shaped, multi-density and very comfortable – and although only a couple of seams are flat-stitched, they’re all positioned so as to avoid irritation.
The back of the bib is made from a breathable mesh, a zip at the front makes comfort stops less hazardous and a Teflon coating helps keep road spray out, but you only get a modest level of insulation for the colder days.
