Look HSC 5 SL review

Look HSC 5 SL review

This true 100% carbon HSC5 SL is the top of Look's fork range and has weight saving carbon dropouts that Look assures us are tough enough to avoid damage, though we advise the use of a skewer without a serrated mating surface.

Our review
Super light with a tad more comfort than the stiffest forks

This true 100% carbon HSC5 SL is the top of Look's fork range and has weight saving carbon dropouts that Look assures us are tough enough to avoid damage, though we advise the use of a skewer without a serrated mating surface.

The crown race seating is effectively built in to the mould. This saves around 15g and does away with the potentially damaging process of driving a headset crown race on to the fork. You'll need a long Allen key brake bolt but the fork includes a quite effective aluminium expander with a carbon fibre cap.

The Look is light, even when you include the internal expanding bung that weighs 39g. It's slightly less stiff than its rivals, but some will appreciate the comfort levels here, and it can be returned to Look for damage-testing after a crash.
