The RockShox Sektor fork is a great example of how inherited technology can create a very cost-effective product.
Structurally, you’re getting exactly the same upper and lower castings as the more expensive Revelation – you’re only missing out on the sag markings and the black coating on the stanchions. You still get the trademark orangey-red O-ring and pressure guide sticker though, plus the older-style Maxle screw-through 15mm axle.
The result is a stiff and reasonably light fork that tracks and brakes with a usefully planted feel. It does get a bit twangy in 29er format, but it’s rock solid in 26in. While we’re talking options there, are travel adjust and coil sprung versions too.
While most forks around this price use an on/off low speed compression damper, the Motion Control DNA damper offers three platform positions between fully open and locked. That makes it easy to set up for a firmer cornering and braking feel if you like to push hard through the front tyre, and it’s still comfortably controlled even left wide open.
The damping is noisier than RCT3 and the rebound can get overwhelmed on really hectic sections, but its overall control, plus the fact that you get first-service spares and a shock pump in the box, make it a tough-trail beating bargain.
