Alternative aesthetics deliver a stiff, reasonably controlled ride

White Brothers are low on most folks' fork radar, but this tough, tight reinforced trail fork is a decent alternative option to the mainstream.

The fully CNC machined construction certainly separates it on looks, but despite the skinny bridge, this is an impressively tight-feeling fork on the trail which turns in and holds a line as well as many bigger forks. A reinforced steerer stops it getting raked out and ruined if you flat drop a big one, too.

The coil spring is smooth and nitrogen charged damping is consistent and controlled, if not fluid. You can increase bottom-out damping by increasing damping air pressure, which is useful for bigger or aggressive riders.

The price has crept up slightly since last year, but long-termers we've used have been sound. The 20mm axle version tested here is a lot lighter than you might think, at 2,040g, but the bolted axle setup is a pain to use.

The Fluid comes in a variety of other types including a quick-release version with 120mm travel for 26in wheels, plus 110/130/150mm travel 29er versions.
