Just getting the Moove Magnate pedals out of the box provoked interest – they sure are light! They weigh 352g and it’s clear that the magnesium pedal bodies help keep weight down. The axles need an 8mm Allen key to fit them as there are no spanner flats, something that helps reduce the chance of overtightening them.
The platform size is a little smaller than we’ve become used to, compared to the likes of Burgtec’s Penthouse flats, for example. The placement of the pins doesn’t do the smaller platform size any favours, though. That said, it’s only riders with much bigger feet or clumpy flat pedal shoes that will feel the need for something wider.
The anodised, shaped aluminium pins look great, but we’d like to see a sharper, taller option as they didn’t provide a huge amount of traction on shoes that didn’t have a super tacky, flat pedal specific sole. We think a simple switch to grub screw pins could well sort this, though.
The bearings have lasted well and are still super smooth, with the paint finish looking remarkably good too.
