Light and comfy, but you may need to fine-tune the angle

The Genetic Carbon Monocoque saddle is pleasingly lightweight. It tipped the scales at a very welcome 159g – 19g lower than its advertised weight!

The ovalised carbon fibre rails help towards that low weight and offer damping from road buzz, but the profile won't fit all seatposts. The rails do drop low beneath the saddle's body though, which helps fitting the saddle on fiddly posts. Useful graphics make positioning the saddle easy.

The body uses Genetic's carbon monocoque Soft Carbon base. Instead of the padding resting on a rigid bed of plastic or carbon, this has a flexible carbon sheet, making the saddle supportive but comfortable.

The rear pads are well placed for your sit bones and the upper folds nicely around the shell, though the rear cloth section could be better finished.

Genetic's 'flat-top' description of this is a bit of a misnomer. It actually dips in the middle then rises again towards the nose. The dip holds you in place well, though the rise towards the nose does mean saddle angle is critical in preventing numbness.

The slight centre groove from the rear to the middle does a good job of relieving pressure too.
