PRO have only been making saddles for a few years, but in that time have earned a reputation for a well-designed, well-made and keenly priced range. The Turnix Carbon is no exception.
- Highs: Light, comfortable and good value
- Lows: Vulnerable to scuffs
It has full carbon rails, weighs just 155g and, though not exactly cheap for a saddle, costs significantly less than you’d pay for a similar quality seat from the likes of Selle Italia and Fi’zi:k.
But it’s not just value that makes the Turnix stand out, it’s also the way that PRO help you choose your correct saddle, using their saddle selector at www.pro-bikegear.com.
This is a simple, question-led process, first asking you about your riding style and your flexibility. This is followed by the all-important sit bone width; if you’re unsure how to measure this the website will direct you towards a shop near you that can help. The final choices are rail material and colour, and once you’ve finished the website will make its recommendations.
We trusted technology and went wholly with PRO’s suggested saddle, ending up with a 142mm wide Turnix Carbon. On the bike the thin nose profile sweeps into a slightly kicked-up tail section. The shape immediately felt comfortable and the narrow nose meant we had no issues with friction when pedalling. The light carbon rails are oversized, though, so you do need to check compatibility with your bike’s seatpost clamp.
The carbon rails enter the rear in two moulded wing sections that are separate from the saddle’s hull, creating plenty of flex and adding to the overall comfort. The Turnix’s soft-touch cover has just enough texture to grip in the dry, though we would have preferred a little more hold in wet conditions. The cover also wraps under the edges before being secured, leaving the edges exposed to potential scuffs and tears; we’d have preferred a little more protection at these vulnerable points.
But even taking this into account we have no hesitation recommending the Turnix. It’s a good quality saddle, light for the price and comfortable, while PRO’s online selector is a well-executed idea that really can help you find the best saddle.
