WTB Pure V Race review

The Pure V is the offspring of WTB's classic droop nosed SST saddles and its contemporary Rocket range. The hooked snout gives it a distinctive look and the shape and grippy embroidery really helps to nail traction when you're sat on the tip.

Weighty, but great looks, broad support and technically excellent

The Pure V is the offspring of WTB's classic droop nosed SST saddles and its contemporary Rocket range.

The hooked snout gives it a distinctive look and the shape and grippy embroidery really helps to nail traction when you're sat on the tip on steep technical climbs. The raised back section also keeps you centred when you're grinding up a long one, too. It's a broad saddle from tip to tail though, which might not suit everyone - particularly narrow hipped racers.

Minimalists might also balk at the weight, although the Team version - at £30 more - saves 100g with titanium rails. If the weight's fine and the girth fits, then the soft nose with cutaway shell underneath and long artery friendly Love Channel down the centre keep it comfortable, even on the longest rides. Big Kevlar panels add protection, and if you can keep the embroidered logos clean, the perforated fabric details and big chrome strips make it a great-looking saddle.
