For big riders (that’s heavy big) or those who like to give their mountain bikes a hard time this big, burly Gravity seatpost from FSA is a solid recommendation. The inline, twin-bolt rocker post is made from 283g of 2014 3D forged alloy, which means it isn’t svelte. But it is easy to adjust.
While the 0/15/30-degree deep-toothed markings may initially appear to imply fixed saddle positions, they don't. The 'teeth' are there to ensure a more secure fix under pressure. Thanks to a full 60 degrees of tilt adjustment you can run your seat level or at some crazy angle. The twin-bolt clamp means you can still micro-adjust the saddle position.
There are lighter alloy options available from FSA and others, but it’s worth remembering that the Gravity seatpost is designed for extra hard duty and the weight is a designed-in feature. As a seatpost it worked perfectly, accepting 8 and 9mm diameter saddle rails and never gave any indication that it will need further attention.
Neat height adjust calibration markers are laser-etched onto the shaft for swift height checking. If ‘fit and forget’ are words you like to attach to your bike’s components then you’ll love the Gravity post. Available in 350mm length only and 27.2mm, 30.0mm, 30.9mm and 31.6mm diameters, there’s one for most bikes. It's an inline post though, so look elsewhere if you need a sat back position and/or more stretch to the handlebar.
