Best for the back, where the narrower profile will bite well

You tend to get good grip with the larger footprint of a 29er mountain bike, but even so Bontrager's 29-Mud TLR tyre gave a noticeably great bite on muddy trails.

With a 2.0in profile we felt it was a little narrow for front use, especially if you’re running your 29er rigid, but was perfect on the back. The weight and rolling resistance were surprisingly low too, so overall this tyre earned a lot of fans during this test. The only criticism we have is the lack of a fatter profile option.
