Our review
Super-light and super-responsive, although Supersonic version is the grippy one

Super-light and surprisingly grippy, the Speed King ProTection gets the standard slippery-when-wet compound.

Designed for marathon cross country racing, the Speed King is phenomenally light and responsive, but very skinny for its nominal size (we tested 2.1in, but it also comes in 2.3in).

However, while the ProTection version helps shrug off rocks and thorns, we’d actually recommend the even lighter Supersonic with Black Chilli compound. It’s more fragile but is remarkably grippy on wet singletrack and will give you tons of mud control for wet riding.

Continental have produced the Speed King in Wire, Folding, ProTection and Supersonic versions.
