Ritchey SpeedMax Z-Min WCS review

The Z-Min really does take a minimalist view on tread. Add a thin-wall WCS base and a carcass that's nearer 2.1 than 2.2in and you've got a crazy light tyre for instant acceleration and smooth, connected feel.

Our review
Superlight, fast and grippy straight-liner but little corner grip and short lifespan

The Z-Min really does take a minimalist view on tread. Add a thin-wall WCS base and a carcass that's nearer 2.1 than 2.2in and you've got a crazy light tyre for instant acceleration and smooth, connected feel. The spaced-out, narrow-knob tread means it's not as fast rolling on road/hardpack but it feels super-quick off road and straight-line braking/ driving grip is impressive, even on damp roots or rocks.

>There's very little edge tread to lean on though, so corners need care. >There's no overhang for protection against trail-side rock scuffs either, so it's not a natural techy trail choice. The skinny tread also wears quickly if you start working it hard, which affects initially attractive pricing.
