Occasionally unpredictable, but generally a decent all-rounder if you’re skint

This Specialized tyre is one of the few cheap tyres that performs okay. The dual compound rubber mix gives adhesion in corners and a faster roll when you’re upright. The carcass is tough yet light.

The mix of gapped centreline tread and reasonably spaced intermediate and shoulder tread gives decent traction on most surfaces without clogging. It’s also ready to run tubeless with sealant rather than an inner tube – impressive for the price.

It feels stiffer and less ‘sticky’ than more expensive rubber though. Armadillo anti-puncture and lighter, more compliant S-Works versions are also available.
